We recently completed a comprehensive scaffolding project in Hoddesdon, Hertfordshire, where our team was appointed design and erect to a multi occupancy residential building. The scaffolding requirements were for extensive external maintenance and repair works on a large scale.

The image to the left captures part of the scale of the project scaffolding in Hoddesdon, Hertfordshire, where we were contracted to instal a multi level scaffolding system .

The property features multiple elevations, dormer windows, and chimneys, all of which required safe and practical scaffolding access at height.  Our team erected several levels (lifts) of scaffolding, allowing the tradespeople to work effectively across the roofline, upper windows, and brickwork.

The scaffolding was carefully structured to follow the building layout, including.

  • Access to the roof areas and chimney stacks.

  • Secure working platforms at multiple heights.

  • Coverage across dormer windows and upper floors.

  • Clean access points at ground level for entry and movement.

  • Fully boarded multi level scaffolding spanning the entire front of the property.

  • Stabilised  vertical support and bracing, ensuring structural integrity.

  • safe ladder access points positioned for ease of use.

  • protection around entryway and parked vehicles.

  • Clean, organised installation that allowed the works to start on-time.

On the scaffolding project in Hoddesdon, safety wasn't just a requirement, it was the Foundation of the entire scaffold design and installation.  With a large residential property, occupied access points for residents and vehicles parked directly in front of the building, we had to carefully plan every stage to eliminate risk and maintain a secure working environment throughout.

Site-specific challenges (Risks Identified)

Before equipment was erected, we carried out out a full Risk Assessment and Method Statement (RAMS) to identify and manage potential hazards on-site. These included:

  • Restricted working space due to parked vehicles and limited frontage access. 🚫

  • Occupied entrance and walkways, requiring safe access for residents at all times.

  • Uneven load distribution due to the ground conditions and building layout.

  • Falling objects hazard during maintenance and repairs works.

  • Public safety concerns, given the residents and visitors for the veterinary services a-junction to the building setting.

Why it matters?

Projects like this highlight the importance of planning, precision, and proactive safety management.  By identifying site specific risks early and following a strict method statement, we were able to deliver a safe, compliant, and efficient scaffolding solution, protecting not only the workforce but also the residents and the surrounding visitors.
